The more advanced human life as if the Internet needs increasingly transformed into basic needs.
 Online facilities are increasingly mushrooming in the community, many people want to be noticed in cyberspace. Facilities to display photos of themselves to live streaming daily activities become a trend.Likewise for access to information, from the media writing, media images up to the media currently in vogue is the video media. As if any amount of bandwidth owned such as can not make us satisfied. 


If the bandwidth you have not set up may be between users fighting each other and sometimes there is not to miss the bandwidth quota. If that happens at the Office during the hours of operation, work that is in need of internet connection will be disrupted and will give a bad effect for employee performance. Or another example if it happens in a cybercafe, wifi area or RT / RW net you, would arise many complaints from some customers who are enjoying your internet service.

There is a need for management of bandwidth usage in place so that no thing that does not want as mentioned above. The solution can use a very popular Mikrotik router to perform the task as a regulator of bandwidth. Many functions that can be used in Mikrotik Like HTB, Queue type, Burst, etc.

Bandwidth Management is an implementation of the process of queuing data, so the bandwidth management function in Mikrotik is called Queue. There are two methods Queue on Mikrotik is Simple Queue and Queue Tree . Both methods utilize Memory / RAM on the router as a packet data queue storage buffer. If the data packet queue meets the shelter then the unaddressed data packet will be in Drop. If the protocol is TCP, the dropped packet will be resent by the server. 

Simple Queue 
It is the easiest bandwidth management method available in Mikrotik. Menu and configuration that is done to implement simple queue is quite simple and easy to understand. Although the name is simple queue is actually the parameters that exist in simple queue very much, can be tailored to the needs to be applied to the network. 
The basic parameters of the simple queue are Target and Max-limit. The target can be an IP address, network address, and can also interface to be set bandwidth. Max-limit Upload / Download is used to provide the maximum bandwidth limit for the target.

Simple Queue can melimit Upload, download separately or Total (Upload + download) in one rule using Total tab.
 
Each rule in the Simple Queue can stand alone or can also be arranged in a hierarchy by directing Parent to another rule. Other parameters can also be used to make the rule more specific such as Dst, Priority, Packete Mark and so on. One example can be seen in the article Bandwidth Management Using Simple Queue

Queue Tree 
Is a feature of bandwidth management in Mikrotik is very flexible and quite complex. Defining the target that will be dilimit on Queue Tree is not done directly when adding the rule Queue but done by marking the data packet using Mangle Firewall.

This is what makes the implementation of Queue Tree more complex.
 This step becomes a challenge in itself, because if one of the Mangle creation can result in Queue Tree is not running. 
But on the other hand the use of Mangle Packet-Mark is also beneficial, because it will be more flexible in determining what traffic will dilimit, can be based on IP Address, Protocol, Port and so on. Each service on the network can be given different speeds. For example, it can be seen in the Queue Tree implementation article to provide different speed limits between online game traffic and browsing. 

Which is better, Simple Queue or Queue Tree? 
Both Simple Queue and Queue Tree have their own advantages. Simple Queue, as the name implies, is quite easy to configure. If the need to do the limitation based on target IP Address or interface, then Simple Queue is the right choice. So we are not preoccupied with the mangle settings. 
While the Queue Tree, as described earlier must use Mangle, must be very careful in its creation. But if Queue needs more detail based on service, protocol, port, etc. then Queue Tree is the answer. The Simple Queue also has a mark-packet parameter, but management is easier with mark-packets applied to the Queue Tree. 
In terms of resource usage, both Simple and Queue Tree are both using RAM resources. But in Queue Tree because it uses combination with Mangle then CPU resource will also be used.
What if both are used? 
Both technical secar can run simultaneously, but need more precision to keep them from overlapping.

To know more details, we will see the process flow that occurs inside the Router. Below is an overview of the packet flow process of RouterOS version5.The Queue reading process is performed on Global-in (prerouting) and Global-Out (postrouting).

While on RouterOS version 6.x, the location of Simple Queue and Queue Tree changes and between Simple Queue and Queue Tree stand alone, can be seen in the picture below.

Based on Packet-Flow above, we can see the process Queue Tree read first.But this process does not stop and will continue to the next process of Simple Queue. So if there is a same data packet, then made Simple Queue and Queue Tree simultaneously, then the end result Client speed will follow the smallest limit.
For example, Simple Queue defines Max Limit Upload / Download = 1M / 1M whereas Queue Tree specifies upload / download = 512k / 512k. Then the end result of the client will get a speed of 512k, according to the smallest limitation.
